Tip #1 Use the white vinegar, dishwashing liquid and water combo
The trio of white vinegar, dishwashing liquid and water is particularly effective in removing traces of coffee from a fabric armchair or sofa! Prepare in a salad bowl 50 cl of white vinegar, 20 cl of lukewarm water and 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. Dip a sponge in this solution, wring out and rub the fabric of your fabric chair focusing on the stains. Rinse with a damp cloth. Dry with a clean towel. Finally let it air dry.
Tip #2: Use 70° alcohol
70° alcohol is perfect for getting rid of ink stains on a fabric hair. Here are the steps to follow for effective cleaning:
- dab the stain on the fabric of the armchair with a cloth soaked in 70° alcohol,
- mop up,
- start again if necessary,
- rinse the cleaned fabric area thoroughly with clear water,
- let dry.
Tip #3: Use lemon juice
Berries are tasty, but they can stain your fabric chair! In case of stain, use a cloth soaked in lemon juice and apply it by dabbing on the stain. Then wipe with a soft cloth dampened with water.
Tip #4: Use a plastic bag full of ice cubes
An ultra-tip for all parents! Has your child stuck his chewing gum on your fabric chair? Unsheathe a plastic bag, fill it with ice cubes and put it on the chewing gum. Once it has become solid, you can remove it with a spatula.
Tip #5: Steam Clean
Do you have a steam cleaner? It can help you remove superficial stains from your fabric chair! On the other hand, be aware that it will be less effective in the event of very encrusted stains.
Tip #6: Machine wash
Does your fabric armchair have removable covers? Nice then, you can clean the removable cover in the washing machine! Check that the textile material is suitable for machine washing. If so, just unzip and remove the closure which is usually found on the back of the backrest, then remove the removable cover and put it in the washing machine. One turn of the machine is enough for your chair to keep all its shine!
Tip #7: Dab the stain from the outside to the center
Did you just spill coffee on your beautiful fabric chair? Intervene immediately to prevent the stain from becoming embedded in the fibers of the fabric! To do this, gently dab the fabric going from the outside to the center of the stain, with an absorbent paper. This will reduce the damage. Then move on to cleaning the stain using one of the cleaning products mentioned above.
Tip #8: Remove dust before cleaning
Cleaning a fabric chair without having taken the time to dust it first is the best way to do worse than better: streaks of dirt that are difficult to remove can remain on the chair, even after cleaning it! To properly clean your fabric chair, you must therefore dust it off first. Using the brush nozzle or the hose of a vacuum cleaner is better!
Tip #9: Clean without getting too wet
Do not get your fabric armchair too wet when you clean it: this is the best way to create rings that are difficult to remove! Do you remove a stain with soap or soda crystals? Be sure to wring the sponge well before using it to clean the stain, then dry the cleaned area of the textile thoroughly with a clean dry cloth.
Tip #10: Test the stain remover before cleaning
Always test a stain remover you plan to use to clean your fabric chair. To avoid a bad surprise, look for a hidden or very inconspicuous place on the fabric sofa and apply a stain remover with a cotton swab. Leave it to act and observe: if the fabric has not rubbed off, it’s good, you can proceed to cleaning your fabric armchair. Conversely, if the fabric has rubbed off, change the cleaning product.
