Professional Cleaners: this is how you should deal with iodine stains
Iodine stains leave nasty brown-red spots behind, which you can easily remove from your upholstery furniture with the right products.
If you have iodine stains, you need to act quickly. It is best if you remove the stain immediately. As a rule, dried iodine stains can no longer be removed. So, as soon as you notice the stain, you should keep it damp. You can do this best if you sprinkle the stain with a little water. Use hot water if possible.
Please note, it is absolutely essential that you only wet the stain itself. If you submerge the entire upholstery, the iodine stain may even expand.
Remove iodine stains quickly: here is your cleaning guideline
It is best if you treat the iodine stain with potatoes or ammonia solution. For severe stains, you should try both methods at the same time. Let us show you how it works.
Take a potato, cut it in half and press it lightly on the iodine stain. Work in a circle from the outside to the inside. Alternatively, you can also use cornstarch. Now it is important to wash out the stain. To do this, hold it under warm running water.
If the stain is not yet removed, you should put ammonia on a cotton swab. Then dab the stain from the outside in once in a circle. After this step, you must also rinse the iodine stain and fabric under warm running water.
Finally, you should thoroughly clean the dirty spot with water. Tip: You can also use potatoes to remove fresh iodine stains on your skin. However, you should be careful with ammonia, as it is corrosive.
Iodine on white fabric: if the stain won’t go away
If you have left the iodine stain on white fabric chair of all things, you can also let it fade in the sun. However, this only works with white fabric. First, you should treat the stain as usual. White furniture will most likely leave a dark stain. This is because iodine is very persistent and obscure.
You can therefore put the white upholstery in the sun, for example. With a bit of luck, this will bleach the stain and you’ll have a white color back again.
