Playing with soap bubbles is great fun for children and even adults. You can levitate large balls through the air that do not burst for a long time. However, when soap bubbles hit a piece of fabric furniture, their liquid leaves unsightly stains. They turn out to be very stubborn, which is why they do not reliably disappear with an ordinary wash. With the following tips and tricks, however, you can remove soap bubble stains reliably, completely and gently.
Soap bubbles are beautiful to look at, but they leave ugly stains on furniture and clothes. These dark stains remain on fabric for a long time and do not disappear even after repeated washing. The stains are caused by the substances contained in the soap bubble agent. The substance Polyquaternium-7 ensures that the bubbles remain solid for a long time and create a stable surface tension. This allows them to float through the air for some time. However, when this chemical gets on upholstery, it acts like a magnet for dust and dirt. It is stored in the fabric and binds dirt from the ambient air.
This gives the furniture unsightly dark spots. Ordinary detergent will not remove the stubborn soap bubble stains. Rather, frequent washing can cause even more damage. Instead, use the following tips and tricks to get rid of soap bubble stains, so that they are completely removed.
Depending on the material and color of the fabric, the following methods are suitable for removing soap bubble stains from fabric:
- Dampen the fabric chair and rub the affected area with gall or curd soap. Let it soak in the suds for several hours, then wash with water.
- You can carefully pretreat white fabric with chlorine.
- Apply glass cleaner or citric acid to the stain. Leave the substance there for a few minutes and then wash the dirty spot with water.
Try different methods
Before disposing of a bubble stained upholstery, you should test the cleaning procedures listed above. Which method works best depends on the type of fabric and color. Fabrics with light colors are particularly difficult to clean, since agents such as gall soap, curd soap, citric acid and chlorine have a bleaching effect. Careful dosing of these agents is therefore required. Also, note that stain removal requires some exposure time before the stains disappear. As an alternative to the agents mentioned here, you can try various special grease-dissolving cleaners. A degreasing special soap is recommended for the treatment of sensitive fabric.
Effectively prevent stains
Since soap bubble stains are very stubborn, they should be avoided if possible. As a preventive measure, you can quickly and easily make your own soap bubble agent instead of using the industrially produced soap bubble solution. To do this, use water and detergent without harsh chemical additives. The soap bubbles do not get that big with the homemade product, but they are still a pleasure and at the same time protect the furniture. If you want to create larger soap bubbles, you can use the following recipe:
- half a cup of dish soap;
- 250 milliliters of water;
- half a cup of cornstarch;
- a tablespoon of glycerin;
- a tablespoon of baking powder.
These ingredients are thoroughly mixed to form a fine solution. This soap bubble agent creates large bubbles and only stains that can be completely removed with normal washing.
