Upholstery Cleaning tips will help you to deal with persistent dirty spots effectively.
It doesn’t matter whether the stain is new or a bit older. The first five tips for removing different stains on the sofa can be found in the chart below.
But before that, two basic tips:
1. Don’t waste time. A stain is best removed when it is still fresh.
2. To be on the safe side, test the methods mentioned on a non-visible spot on the couch. This ensures that if discoloration occurs, the overall picture is not spoiled.
1. Remove grease stains
Leather sofa:
Gently blot the fresh stains off your leather sofa and soak up as much as possible with a kitchen towel. Then put baby powder, potato flour or chalk on the stain to pull any residue out of the material. After a short exposure time, you can easily vacuum up the mixture with a vacuum cleaner. For older grease stains, get magnesium carbonate and mineral spirits. Mix both substances in a bowl and apply the mixture. Allow to dry briefly and then brush it off carefully. Wipe off the residue with clear water.
Fabric sofa:
Here, too, you should first soak up the fresh grease stains with a paper towel and dab them off. Never rub further into the material! Mix cleaning water with fat-soluble washing-up liquid or use gall soap to remove the stain. Grease stains that have already dried on the fabric should be removed with benzine or gall soap. Allow the gall soap to act briefly. Dab off the residue and wipe with clear water. In the case of particularly stubborn stains, the process must be repeated.
2. Remove chocolate stains
Leather sofa:
First remove the leftovers. With fresh chocolate, gently dab the sofa with a cloth. Old chocolate stains, which are particularly stubborn, can be gently scraped off with the back of a knife. Wipe with normal soapy water and apply care milk if necessary.
Fabric sofa:
Here, too, fresh stains should be dabbed off quickly. Old residue can be removed with the back of a knife. Wipe off with water and detergent. Gall soap can then be applied, which you can remove after about 20 minutes with a damp cloth. Never rub the chocolates further into the fabric.
