A fabric dining chair is a piece of furniture that we like to find in the living or dining room. Alas, by dint of using it, it can quickly get dirty! However, as you know, removing a stain is not always easy, especially on a material such as fabric that requires special care. To face the daily risk and prevent your beautiful chair from being stained, discover our best tips for cleaning and maintaining a fabric dining chair. There is no doubt that with these tips, your favorite seat will be entitled to a new lease of life!
All these methods require preparation in advance, in particular by dusting off the chair and protecting its legs and frame. So, let’s get to it:
About 90% of stains on fabric are water soluble. This maintenance method is therefore undoubtedly the most common when it comes to washing a fabric dining chair. Several solutions are available for you. You can go to the store to buy a dedicated cleaning product or make your own solution at home. The latter often has the advantage of being ecological and above all cheaper! Explore the different possibilities:
- With shampoo
The cleaning with water is accompanied by the use of special fabric shampoo. You have to mix it with water and then apply shampoo on the treated surface with the help of a washcloth. All you have to do is dab gently with a clean cloth, rinse with clear water using another cloth and making sure to wring it out well and then dry. Then wait for your furniture to dry naturally or dry it yourself.
- With homemade cleaning products
As an alternative to shampoo, various tips allow you to design equally effective ecological cleaning products at home. Use the essential ingredients: lemon, salt or even baking soda!
Dry cleaning is less common than wet cleaning. This can be explained quite simply because it is better suited to grease and oil stains, since we remind you that the other stains are 90% water soluble. Nevertheless, several solutions are available on the market, such as commercially available cleaning products, home-made ecological alternatives or simply textile professionals such as dry and steam cleaners that are used at home.
- With foam
There is a wide variety of products to clean a fabric chair. We recommend special fabric care products in the form of foam. This product removes dirt from fabric and gives it a new youthfulness. To use it, nothing could be simpler: spray the foam on your chair, then dab the entire chair with a clean cloth, then let it rest. Throughout the operation, make sure to ventilate your room well.
- With homemade cleaning products
Just like with water cleaning, homemade ecological alternatives exist for dry cleaning, as well! For example, it can be baking soda, which you just need to apply to the stain and then vacuum clean to remove it after leaving it to absorb for about 1 hour.
- Steam cleaning
Steam cleaning is widely used in dry cleaners. By equipping yourself with a portable steam cleaner, there is no doubt that the result will also be there! For regular maintenance, we advise you to use the steam cleaner without detergent, that is to say only with water. If you want to use one, make sure to check that it will not damage your fabric and to dilute it well with water. To do this, read and scrupulously respect the conditions of use of the maintenance product. Then start cleaning by going slowly to give the steam time to act on your fabric covering. If your chair is protected by a stain repellent, steam cleaning may have removed it. We therefore advise you to spray a waterproofing agent again once your fabric dining chair is clean and dry!
