Sectional Sofa Cleaning: Why It Costs More, Takes Longer, and Is Worth It

A sectional is not a big sofa — it is two or three sofas joined in a shape, often with a chaise that is effectively half a mattress. That is why it costs more and takes longer than a three-seater, and why the result is more dramatic: there is simply more fabric to bring back.

What makes a sectional more work

  • Seats and cushions. Five to seven seats, often with loose back cushions — each cleaned on all visible sides.
  • The chaise. A large flat surface that gets feet, laptops, naps and pets — the most soiled section on most sectionals.
  • Corner and connection points. Crumbs and grit collect in the joins; vacuumed and cleaned separately.
  • Drying. More fabric, more time: 3–6 hours with airflow.

Time and price

A 5-seat sectional takes 90 minutes to 2 hours; a 7-seat U-shape with chaise up to 2.5. Typical NYC price runs $180–260 depending on size, fabric and condition — roughly a sofa plus a loveseat, which is what it is. Full pricing logic in how much sofa cleaning costs; process on the sofa cleaning page.

Do we need to take it apart?

Usually no. Sections are cleaned in place; we pull them a few inches apart to clean the joins and facing sides, then push them back. The exception is a sectional against two walls — we need access to the back of at least one side.

Modular sectionals and removable covers

Removable covers are tempting to machine-wash — check the label, because many shrink or fade and no longer fit. The safer route is cleaning them in place on the foam, where extraction cleans both and nothing shrinks.

Prep that saves time

  1. Remove throws, pillows and anything under the cushions.
  2. Point out the chaise, pet spots and spills; they get pre-treated first.
  3. Leave a few feet of clearance on at least one open side.

Sectionals are the most common job in Queens and Staten Island family homes; the process is identical in a Manhattan apartment — just tighter corners.

Sectional FAQ

Can you clean just the chaise?

We can, but it will look newer than the rest. Cleaning the whole sectional keeps the color even.

Our sectional is microfiber with a few pet spots. Standard price?

Standard size pricing plus enzyme treatment only if the spots are urine. Check the fabric code first — see microfiber cleaning codes.

How soon can the kids jump on it again?

When it is dry — 3–6 hours. Book a morning slot and it is ready after dinner.
